La Glamour — Hair Techniques

hairI style my hair using a blow dryer and flat iron. Is that why my hair looks so dry?
Dry? Yes, and probably dull, too! Heat can be tough on hair, so it needs protection — especially from the intense heat of a flat iron. Look into professional hair products by Matrix. I especially like the Biolage line. The Fortifying Heat Styler is what you need to protect your tresses plus add softness and shine. A word about flat irons: Be quick with them. Do not pause at any point, or you may sever your hair right there.

How can I add volume to my hair without making it super curly?
Blow-dry your hair using a large round brush. Then take a section of hair starting at the crown, comb it straight up, lightly spritz with hairspray, then wind it downward on an oversized Velcro roller. Spritz again. Repeat in areas where you want volume. Finished rolling? Using your blow dryer on low, apply heat to each roller to make it form to the shape. Leave in rollers 20 minutes or until completely cooled.

Sizzling Summer Hair Tips
Use a leave-in conditioner with an SPF 25.

Cut the frizz by applying a styling product with pure silicone.

Complete blow-drying with a round brush to add smoothness.

Before stepping out of the shower, rinse your tresses with cool water to close the cuticle and reduce the frizzy look caused by humidity.

Protect your hair from the harmful rays of the sun with a straw hat or ball cap.

Reduce static by applying hair spray to your brush and running it through your hair.

Eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies. They’re loaded with the vitamins that healthy hair needs.

Feel the Power Surge!
Want to boost your energy before diving into your homework? Do 10 minutes of aerobic exercise such as jumping rope, marching in place or stair climbing. Then mix together these ingredients and eat.

1 cup of plain nonfat yogurt
2 tablespoons of honey
1 tablespoon of wheat germ

Artist Expression
“I like to get egg whites, whip them, and put them on my face — that sounds disgusting but it cleans your skin. If you have acne and such, it’ll cleanse your skin. I do it about once a week.” —Christian music artist Ana Laura
